Central HIGH SCHOOL PTASenior Activities Committee
Dear “Class of 2003” Parents, The Senior Year is finally here! The Senior Activities Committee, appointed by the PTA, is in charge of coordinating and facilitating many activities that will happen during your student’s senior year. Please read all sections of this letter to insure that you don’t miss out on any of the fun during this exciting year. 1. Activity Fee Let’s get past the least fun part first. Each year seniors are assessed an activity fee which pays for the Senior Picnic, the All-Night Party, Baccalaureate and Graduation and provides funds for the decorations for Commencement and the Honors Assembly. This year the activity fee has been set at $125 if mailed before September 16th, or $150 if mailed after that date. Scholarships are available by calling Linda Raya or her assistant at the High School (214/555-3700). Please send your payment to Karen O’Hare, our treasurer, in the envelope enclosed. 2. Waiver Please sign and return in enclosed envelope with your check. 3. Volunteer Opportunities There are many wonderful ways for you to participate and help this year, including decorating, providing food, chaperoning or cleaning up at one of the special senior events. Your volunteer efforts will insure that our seniors have wonderful and memorable experiences. Please fill out the enclosed volunteer form and return to Karen O’Hare in the enclosed envelope, along with your activity fee as soon as possible. 4. Private Senior Parties Traditionally, some seniors are honored by friends or family with private parties. All parties should be scheduled with Jamie Comeaux, the Senior Activities Calendar Chair. Please contact Jamie at (214) 526-0717 or comos2@hotmail.com before committing to a date in order to avoid conflicts with school events and other parties. Please consider scheduling a party in the fall because the spring calendar is usually overbooked. As a matter of policy, we are all asked to limit parties to a maximum of two (2) private parties per senior honoree. If you cancel or change a party, please keep Jamie informed so that the calendar is accurate. Please remind your senior to reply promptly to all invitations! It is illegal to serve alcohol to persons under 21 years of age. Please adhere to the law. 5. Photos Needed During the school year, Michelle Weitz will be displaying baby or early childhood pictures of our seniors. We have the pictures that were displayed at our 8th grade breakfast at McCulloch. If you were not at McCulloch at this time or are not sure if your student needs a picture, please contact Michelle Weitz at (214) 373-1302 or e-mail at bestcake@aol.com. She will need a non-returnable photo or a color copy. (Kinko’s and Cooter’s provide this service) Her address is 2701 Stanford (05). Please put the senior’s name on the back of the photo and limit the size to 5 x 7 or smaller. These pictures will not be returned. 6. Important Dates Many of the senior activities have been listed on a separate page that should be posted in a prominent place for your senior and the rest of your family to reference during the school year. It contains important dates, both academic and social, that pertain to the senior year. This is also a great starting point as you look for available dates for any private parties. Check this list even before contacting Jamie Comeaux. 7. Keep Updated The counseling area of the Student Services Center at the High School produces an informational newsletter each month, distributed through the English classes, called the Senior Scot News. Ask your senior for it! You can look it up yourself on the High School home page at www.centralhigh.edu. Or you may pick up your own printed copy each month from the counselor’s office. This is an excellent source of information and last minute schedule changes. 8. Other Important Information Each senior family will receive a detailed letter from the High School administration shortly after Spring Break concerning the end of year and graduation events. The counselors also want you to know that in order to begin the college application process, each senior is expected to attend a graduation credit check and college application session this fall. 9. And Finally... The following members of the Senior Activities Committee are excited about this wonderful year and are already hard at work on may tasks.
Please feel free to contact any of us if you have questions or suggestions on making this the best senior year possible. Sherri Baer, Kate Deloache, Tiffa Wilshusen
